A subscriber responded to the May 13 blog about Megalomania with a request as to a solution to the situation. My thoughts immediately turned to the passive approach, which at this point no one has suggested. Congress needs to pass a bill allowing for the appointment of a one- time king of the USA. Donald Trump would be the sole regent stated in the law, and his term would last for a lifetime. “Trump, the Don” would be replaced by “Don the King”. Given the fact that he has already anointed a Barron, Don would be the perfect fit.
The king’s powers would be nil, but he would be the ceremonial master of the USA, possibly starting golf tournaments, throwing out the ball at the third game of a nighttime triple- header, and tasting Big Mac’s at the million McDonalds to decide which had the best. Certainly, he would be the arbiter of the annual Red Tie contest, the winner receiving a statue of Josh Hawley’s fist pump on January 6th. Internationally he would use his scepter to welcome and bless immigrants crossing the Rio Grande River into America, gift Putin a t- shirt with a portrait of King Don to wear on his horseback rides, and write intimate letters to his pal Kim Jong Il of North Korea.
King Don’s regalia would be provided by Congress. His clothing issue would include pants with a lock on the zipper, a red cape with a fur collar that matched his hair-do and was coiffed daily, A crown that says “I won”, a gold Cadillac with all gold interior and a be-jeweled hood ornament, a gas card, and a litter with bearers to replace his golf cart. Following Don would be Mat Gaetz with a portable lie detector and a mirror for any of the King’s cronies to look into when speaking.
Of course, the King’s palace would be Mar a Lago, which would be perfect. Since King Don’s life is transaction inspired, the government would pay him a nominal fee of 500 billion “somethings (ball bearings?)” per year so he can claim he has the most in the world. The summer residence would be at Bedminster in New Jersey. Dictators and tyrants of the world would cower in front of such a King.
Yes, he would be the most loved and respected person in the world. Which is all he really wants anyway.
